Shillong Golf club wins the 101 Area golf championship 2017

The 101 Area Golf Championship was conducted on 28 May 2017 at Shillong Golf Club, which is one of the oldest Golf Courses in the country with its vintage dating back to 1898. This is the first time, the various Golf Clubs of Shillong like Vajra Golf Club, Laitkor Golf Club, Shillong Golf Club Ltd along with Rhino Golf Club participated in a team event, in addition to the participation of members of Shillong Golf Club in the open category.
The initiative was taken by Lieutenant General DS Ahuja, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area to bring all golfers of Shillong together on a common platform with the aim of generating more interaction amongst the golfing fraternity and a step towards conduct of more such tournaments.
There was an overwhelming participation from members of all the golf clubs endorsing the concept. The Rhino Golf Club placed on record the support of Mr A.H. Scott Lyngdoh and other Board members for their unconditional assistance in the conduct of the tournament to such a resounding success.
The overall team event was won by Shillong Golf Club, in addition to the various prizes given in a number of categories. The occasion was graced by distinguished members of Shillong to include AOC-in-C, Eastern Air Command, Director General of Assam Rifles, Mr A.H. Scott Lyngdoh and Board members of Shillong Golf Club. The Patron-in-Chief of Rhino Golf Club assured that this event shall be a recurring event on an yearly basis and expressed his desire for other Clubs to follow the same to generate greater interaction and bonhomie amongst the armed forces and the golfers of Shillong.
It is pertinent to note that the North Eastern Region of the country has the highest density of Golf Courses in the country and a large number of young players are emerging who have the potential to make it big in the international arena and bring glory to the nation.
