Itanagar: Youth should stay away from drug and tobacco- Nabam Tuki

Inaugurating the 2nd edition of Jully Super 16 football Championship, Nabam Tuki appeal the youth to stay away from drug and tobacco.

The 2nd edition of Jully Super 16 Championship kicked off here on Sunday at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School football ground, Jully.

A total of 14 teams from Capital Complex  taking part in the competition. The final will be played on 24th July at the same venue.

In a bid to spread awareness among the public about drug abuse and tobacco, the championship is sponsored by Arunachal  Pradesh state Aids Control Society, Tobacco Control Society and others with a motto ‘Say yes to life and no to tobacco’. The championship is being organized by Ajing Arum Society.

Former Chief Minister and MLA from Sagalee Nabam Tuki inaugurated the championship and advised the players to stay away from drugs, alcohol and tobacco if they want to be success in life. He also expressed his concern to the youngsters who indulge  in drugs and tobacco, on the same time he also   appreciated the organizers who chose the sports as a medium of awareness.

He further advised the players to compete with full sportsmanship. “Do not make a playground a place to pick a fight and do not make karate bout, but play to showcase your skills with fairness”.

He also urged the people to make good use of the sports facilities provided by the government.

All Kra Daadi District Students Union (AKDDSU) president Gora Rikam Bhai who attended the inaugural programme as special guest advised the players to play in competitive stage.

Bhai also said that players should avoid tobacco and alcohol if they want to make a career in sports.

Ajing Arum Society Chairman Taba  Topu, Secretary Byabang Noah Dui among other also spoke on the occasion.

Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Director Cyprian K, social worker Tarh Miri,  executive Members of Nyishi Ethnic students Union (NESA), Several local leaders of the area, football lovers among others were present on the occasion.

The first match was played between Longotia FC Vrs Champion FC which was won by Longotia FC by 3/2.
