Chief Minister Pema Khandu today remembered the martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces, who laid down their lives safeguarding the country’s borders during the Kargil War of 1999, one of the most recent full-scale conflicts between India and Pakistan.
“In the conflict that lasted from May 3 to July 26 in Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC), our forces displayed extreme courage and patriotism and successfully regained control of all previously held territory. In the process about 527 brave soldiers of the Indian Army laid down their lives. We remember them and pay our gratitude today,” he said in a message this evening.

“In Arunachal Pradesh we live in close proximity and constant touch with the Army. On this day let’s send them a message that we are with them through thick and thin and view their sacrifices in high esteem,” he added.
