Men’s Double Badminton Tournament of Namsai district begins

Namsai Open Grand Prix, the much awaited Men’s Double Badminton (Open Category) tournament of Namsai district begun here on Friday. The tournament organized by Tai Badminton Club in collaboration with Namsai District Badminton Association was inaugurated by ZPC Namsai Chow Kyasing Mounglang. Altogether 21 teams are participating in the tournament.
Speaking after the inauguration, ZPC Namsai Chow Kyasing Mounglang lauded the organizers of the tournament and said participation is most important in sports. He asked the participants to play well with a sportive spirit.
President of the Tai Badminton Club, Chow Seyong Choutang giving outline of the tournament said that the tournament is organized as this sport will help develop and enhance the experiences of our community. It is envisaged, that our society will have positive experiences, through the Men’s Double Badminton tournament, that will eventually build a ‘Sporting Society’ and be a guiding force to help eradicate the social menace of drug abuse.
The tournament we are organizing is to help revive the love of our community for the sports. Our societies have to provide an excellent opportunity, to our youngsters to develop their sports skills, which would equip our youths with the right skills, mindset and values for a world of continuous & dynamic change. It is hoped that this sporting event will help our young friends leave the path of wrongdoings and be a good responsible person in the society, he added.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Secretary (Planning) Chow Zingnu Namchoom inaugurated the indoor badminton Hall at Namsai amidst presence of huge sports lovers and lauded the efforts of the organizers in conducting the tournament.
The inaugural match was played between the duo of Parliamentary Secretary Planning Chow Zingnu Namchoom and former Commissioner Tape Bagra Versus Chow Kyasing Mounglang and ADC Namsai M.K.Deori. The Day 1 saw 10 teams qualify to pre-quarter final and on second day 6 teams made it to quarters. The teams that are participating in the event are members from Tai Badminton Club, Arunachal University of Studies, Chai Mau, and team from Mahadevpur.
