And from which, once found actionable, these distress signals are dispatched by the ERC to the nearest Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) present in field, which is equipped with a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), he added.
He further added that the system will be likely launched in the other remaining districts at the beginning of 2020 in a phase wise.
He informed that helpline no. 122 is a centralized reception of all types of emergencies requests and added that the ERSS has a web portal and SOS App.
“The people can Call, SMS, Email, access the web portal and also use the SOS App to register an emergency,” said Hooda adding that the dispatch team will locate and reach out for help.
Furthermore, he added that it has feature for non-emergency distress case, in which people can log into the website and fill up for police to reach out for them.
When asked whether the location of the caller can be traced, he said that as of now it is not possible but the team is working on it, to make it possible.
While briefing the media persons after the soft launch, IGP Hooda appealed to the general public to have access to the ERSS and requested to put forward any feedback to make it more successful.
“We are trying out now, and we need support from the people to ensure that the system serves for the benefit of the people to the best,” informed IGP.
