Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), an initiative of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, to cover all emergency distress or helpline numbers such as 100, 101,102,108 etc. into one common helpline number 122 will be officially launched in the state in the month of November, informed IGP Law and Order, Sagar Preed Hooda, during a soft launch of ERSS here at Police Headquarter today.

He said that in the state, the project is implemented as a pilot project in the districts of Papum Pare (City), Papum Pare (Rural) and East Siang while the Emergency Response Centre (ERS) opened today during the soft launch will act as the central control room where all these distress signals will be received and registered.

And from which, once found actionable, these distress signals are dispatched by the ERC to the nearest Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) present in field, which is equipped with a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), he added.

He further added that the system will be likely launched in the other remaining districts at the beginning of 2020 in a phase wise.

He informed that helpline no. 122 is a centralized reception of all types of emergencies requests and added that the ERSS has a web portal and SOS App.

“The people can Call, SMS, Email, access the web portal and also use the SOS App to register an emergency,” said Hooda adding that the dispatch team will locate and reach out for help.

Furthermore, he added that it has feature for non-emergency distress case, in which people can log into the website and fill up for police to reach out for them.

When asked whether the location of the caller can be traced, he said that as of now it is not possible but the team is working on it, to make it possible.

While briefing the media persons after the soft launch, IGP Hooda appealed to the general public to have access to the ERSS and requested to put forward any feedback to make it more successful.

“We are trying out now, and we need support from the people to ensure that the system serves for the benefit of the people to the best,” informed IGP.
