Shillong Observed Dalai Lama’s 81st Birthday

The Tibetan Settlement Office, the core group for Tibetan cause, have celebrates the 81st birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama here at Aurobindo Ashram in Shillong on Wednesday.
On this occasion a clourful function was organised by the Core Group for Tibetan Cause, an apex coordinating body of national level for the cause of Tibetan and Tibet freedom in collaboration with Shri Aurobindo Ashram and Asian Confluence.
The Core Group said in a statement that it was for the first time that Dalai Lama’s birthday has celebrated publicly in the Northeastern region.
People from all Northeastern states have participated in the event. During the day-long celebration Several eminent personalities has delivered speeches on ‘Peace and Environment of Himalayan region’ by eminent speakers, photo exhibition on life of Dalai Lama and cultural show by the Tibetan artistes settled in different parts of the Northeast among others.
The Convener of the core group R.K. Khirmey said the celebration of the Dalai Lama’s birthday have s represent the importance of Tibet’s centuries old ‘Guru – Chela’ (teacher – disciple) relationship with India. The the public should be aware of the problems in Tibet., He added. “If anything happens in the international border with China, North East will be affected first,” he stated.
