Arunachal Pradesh Former CM Kalikho Pul Commits Suicide

Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and sitting MLA Kalikho Pul Commited Suicide. The incident took place at 09:30 am today. Mr Pul was found hanging at the official Chief Minister’s residence, which he had not vacated till now. Sources say he had asked for time to move out of the home. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan.
Mr Pul was chief minister for around four months after the state was placed under President’s Rule following a series of dramatic developments that saw the Congress government being voted out by party rebels, along with the opposition BJP.
Last month, the Supreme Court said that the decisions taken between December and March which included placing Arunachal Pradesh under President’s Rule were illegal. The judges set the clock back to when Congress’s Nabam Tuki headed the government.

As per his close associates he was suffering from depression and was extremely upset after his appointment was struck down by the Supreme Court.
Hailing from a border village in remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh bordering China, Kalikho Pul trekked a long way in his political career to became the eighth chief minister of the state.

Pul was general secretary of his college union. He won on a Congress ticket in 1995 and went on to become a minister. In fact, he served as a minister for 22 of his 23 years as MLA.
