BSF Seized Gold Biscuit, Red Sandal Wood From Indo-Bangla Border

The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday seized 04 gold biscuits weighing nearly 466.72 gms and huge quantity of Red Sandal Wood from near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sabri, Cooch Behar Distt West Bengal. It was an unclaimed seizure.
Around afternoon, the intelligence branch of BSF received an information about the possibility of gold smuggling from the area, by throwing across the border fencing, from Bangladesh to India. Accordingly a team of BSF intelligence personnel laid a camouflaged ambush in the vicinity of the suspected. area.
During the evening time when BSF observed one unidentified person, on the BD side, hurling a packet, across the border fencing and fleeing form the spot. Immediately, the BSF troops ran towards the spot and recovered the packet. On opening the packet, which was wrapped securely in polythene, 04 gold biscuits were recovered from it.
BSF handed over the seized gold biscuits to Customs office at Dinhata, Cooch Behar (West Bengal). The officials of Customs Department Dinhata (WB) has further confirmed that the seized metal is 24 Carat Pure Gold weighing 466.72 gms and having an approx value of Rs 14,88,137/- in the open market.
Gold smuggling is rare in this part of the border, but this incident has been taken seriously and troops have been briefed accordingly to be alert to this crime.

Meanwhile BSF troops in Madhyabalabhut, Cooch Behar (WB) on 11 July 2016 seized 43.7Kgs of red sandal wood, as unclaimed seizure, having approx. value of Rs. 5,68,217/- in the open market, from the border road near the IB. This seizure was also made on specific input provided by intelligence branch of BSF.
BSF troops are always alert to issue of trans-border crimes and illegal infiltration and are making all out efforts to prevent commission of illegal crimes.
