The NSS Cell of NERIST in collaboration with the Tomo Riba Institute of Health Medical Science, Naharlagun organised a Voluntary Blood Donation camp at NERIST Health Unit. During the camp, Dr. Tashi Paleng, Blood Bank Officer, TRIHMS briefed the donors about the benefits of blood donation and about the dos and don’ts of post donation.
He also cleared many doubts of the donors regarding voluntary blood donations. Dr. A. Dinamani Singh, Coordinator, NSS NERIST requested the concerned officials to maintain proper haemovigilance to encourage holistic blood donors.
Haemovigilance is the set of surveillance procedures covering the entire blood transfusion chain, from the donation and processing of blood and its components, through to their provision and transfusion to patients, and including their follow-up.
“India is a country of youths; hence many issues being faced at our country can be solved with the involvement of youths. People who are fit and between the ages of 18-65 years should make a habit donating blood atleast twice a year.” stated Prof. H. S. Yadav, Director, NERIST, while addressing the donors.
A total of 45 volunteers turned up to donate. After deferring some of the volunteers, 34 units of blood were collected during the said camp.
The blood bank staffs of TRIHMS along with faculty members and students of Zion Institute of Nursing, Nirjuli provided the technical support for the camp.
