In the face of continuous downpour for the last one week, turbulently flowing Lohit River damaged and washed away the 500 meters long Boulder Coated Guide Wall (BCGW) built way back in the year 2014 – 15.
The mightily River flowing in high velocity carrying logs and natural vegetation washed out about 150 meters of guide wall posing looming threat in the downstream. Especially Jhalukbari, TR Camp and 25th BN ITBP camp are under threat.

We have used Plastic Coated Galvanize Wire (PCGW), the best wire and adhered every technique under Flood Management Plan (FMP) unfortunately indomitable nature overpowered everything”, rues the WRD sources.
When enquired more over breached of guide wall, Damchen Norbu DDMO cited rampant sand and boulder quarries may be one of the major causes.
The DDMO also informed shifting of 7 (seven) families from the flooded River bank of Dhora Nallah to avoid looming threat.
There is no losses of life till day and high spat water level in various rivulets are receding due to slight improvement in weather condition”, he says.
Meanwhile, earlier Prince Dhawan, DC issued executive order in the district alerting the citizen going in the river site and evades fishing in order to avoid any untoward incident.
Heavy rains continued to batter parts of Sunpura, affecting the normal life causing water-logging in some areas and New Hatiduba School.
In Namsai district, major rivers including the Lohit, Kamlang, Berring are flowing turbulently with high velocity carrying logs and natural vegetation causing bank erosion. Three houses were damaged in Bihari Tapu under Chowkham circle due to flood. At Silatoo Bridge & Rongalibeel flood control works have been washed away.
