He was born on 24 November 1622 and died in 1671. His remains lie in rest at the Lachit Maidaam constructed in 1672 at Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha at Hoolungapara, 16 kilometer from Jorhat.
The bravery and folk-lore of Bir Lachit Borphukan is part of each home in the state of Assam. The statues and busts of Bir Lachit Borphukan are constructed at various important historical places, government buildings in Assam as a mark of respect and reverence to his extraordinary courage. NDA Khadakwasala, Pune also has a similar statue. Incidentally the best passing out cadet of NDA is conferred with Lachit Borphukan gold medal every year from 1999 as a mark of respect to this great warrior.
Since the Dao Mountain Division is deployed in the state of Assam and draws inspiration from this great warrior; it was felt that installation of the statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Dinjan Military Station will go a long way in achieving the objectives of youth guidance
The statue has been created by Mr Aswini Konwar, a renowned Artist graduated from Government Art College, Guwahati.
