Meanwhile, Pema assured to take up other demands of ASBA in the State Cabinet after its formation which include construction of National Badminton Academy having eight courts at 6 km between Itanagar-Naharlagun to be named after Late Dorjee Khandu and taking over of the Dorjee Khandu State Open Badminton Championship by the state government.
Ratu Techi, President and Bamang Tago, Secretary ASBA while placing their grievances before the Chief Minister apprised that the good numbers of renowned badminton players of the state have brought laurels to the state in various national and international tournaments; however they lamented that the state lacks proper infrastructure and coaching facilities to nurture young talents.
They also informed that the Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship 2016 will be played from 10th to 13th August 2016 for three categories viz., Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 for both boys and girls. As this tournament was being sponsored by the family of Late Dorjee Khandu for the last three years, they requested the state govt to take over the tournament as per the agreement between the state govt and ASBA during inception of the tournament.
They expressed happiness and gratitude to the Chief Minister for giving an opportunity to meet them within a very short period.
