Tension prevailed in Namsai after a violent outbreak in which Atleast 14 people including policemen were injured on Saturday during the 12 Hour bandh in Namsai. Home Minister Bamang Felix flew to Namsai to take stock of the situation. The bandh was called by All Tai Khampti Singhpo Students Union (ATKSSU) and All Namsai Area Students Union (ANAYA).
The police later managed to control the violence using tear gas, and blank fire to disperse the mobs. The injured were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
The situation turns violent when the bandh supporters created ruckus outside the Namsai Police station. Later the same mob moved toward the villages and provoked them by creating a war-like situation near Jengthu Bridge. Exchange of Stone pelting has been witnessed causing serious injuries to many villagers.
As per the ground report, Security Forces fired Tear Gas and lathi-charged to control the mob.
ATKSSU and ANAYA had called the 12-hour bandh over alleged police inaction and failure of the police to register an FIR lodged on 28 October against instigators of violence in the district.
Meanwhile, observing the tense situation at Namsai District, Director General of Police (APP) has directed the Superintendent of Police Upper Siang, Deputy SP Traffic, Deputy SP-SIC, Inspector –SIT, Inspector-Ziro, and Inspector –SIC to report to the DIGP- Eastern Range at Namsai.
