“Football is more popular than rest of the game in Arunachal. Despite our youths blessed with sporting talent, they lack proper professional coaching facilities,” said Khandu.
He welcomed Gumpe for his desire to pass on his skills to upcoming football aspirants in the state. “I hope our youths will be able to make best use of your exposure, experience and talent,” said the Chief Minister.
A certified instructor from Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Gumpe holds “A certificate” in coaching and has completed AFC Goalkeeping Level 1 Course. He also completed Goalkeeping course from German Football Federation.
The former footballer made a brief power point presentation to the Chief Minister on his achievements and career. In his presentation, he also talked about ways to improve and encourage football in the state.
Apart from playing for Clubs like Salgaocar FC, HAL and Vasco, Gumpe has represented India in Asia Youth Championship at Bahrain in 1994. For his achievements and contribution in the field of sports, he was awarded the Governor’s Gold Medal for excellence in sports by Govt. of Arunachal in 1995.
