Tripura’s Deepa Kumari created history in Rio Olympics

Tripura’s Dipa Kumari created history last Sunday when she entered into the finals for Pole Vaulting in the Rio Olympics. This is the first time in 52 years that a female Indian athlete reached the finals of a Gymnastics event.
She also came in sixth in artistic Gymnastics. She scored a total of 14.850 after two attempts at Produnova vault to secure a place in the finals. Eight other contestants will be competing with her in the finals.
Dipa is also one among 5 other female athletes to successfully perform the Produnova Vault. She first made headlines when she secured a bronze medal in the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games
She also bagged a bronze medal and secured 5th place in the finals of the 2015 Asian Championship held in Hiroshima.
