University Soccer league 2019: Defending champions Phy Ed retain USL title

Defending champions of the University Soccer League (USL), the Department of Physical Education retained its title yet again with a 4-1 victory over the Department of Science United in the final held here at the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on Tuesday.
The 4th edition of the USL, an annual football event of the RGU, came to a close after 18 teams from the university fought intensely for the title glory, and with the Physical Education team remaining unbeaten throughout the 12-day tournament.
The scorers for Physical Education department were Mibol Zongluzu, Limbi Manzo and Khyoda Tai. The Science United team made the error of scoring an own goal and added to the points of Physical Education.
Koniang Yangfo was the lone scorer for the team of Science United.
Addressing players and sports enthusiasts after the match, Basar MLA Gokar Basar said, “change in Arunachal Pradesh can come from the young blood of this university,” and assured his help in development of sports in the university.
Basar also gave away the trophies to both the winner and runner-up teams, besides awarding them with cash prizes. Players were also awarded for their skilful performances during the tournament.
Kago Lampung from the Physical Education department was declared the best player of the tournament and Kadum Sarah, also from the Physical Education, was awarded the best defender award. Charu Okam of the Scholar’s team was given the best goal keeper award.
The Physical Education team’s Khyoda Tai was awarded for the highest goals in the tournament.
The Department of Master of Social Work received the honour of the most disciplined team for their fair play.
It needs to be mentioned that the Department of Physical Education has won the USL thrice and this was its second consecutive title win. The team has a chance to grab the running trophy permanently if they manage to defend their title in the next edition of the USL.
