Security stepped up ahead of Republic Day on railway track in Assam in view of the intelligence inputs pouring in about plans of various subversive groups to target railway infrastructures like train, tracks etc. Measures have been taken by NF Railway authority to check such incidents, said in press release issued by the authorities .
According to the press release Goods train or pilot engine will run ahead of all important passenger trains in the Srirampur – New Bongaigaon-Kamakhya, New Bongaigaon – Goalpara Town – Kamakhya, Fakiragram – Dhubri and Guwahati – Lumding – Tinsukia/Dibrugarh section on 25th and 26th January.
Trains in vulnerable sections are being escorted by RPF/RPSF and GRP personnel. All major bridges are being guarded round the clock. Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out with the help of sniffer dogs to detect explosives etc mentioned in the press release.
To check activities of anti-social elements CCTV cameras are being monitored by trained RPF officials in all important stations. Track patrolling by motor trolleys as well as on foot are being carried out in sensitive sections. 07 Coys of RPSF have been deployed for providing security of railway employees, stations etc. Security related announcements are being done in various stations to make people aware about any unclaimed / unattended articles. Joint control rooms have been set up in Tinsukia, Lumding, Guwahati, Rangiya and New Bongaigaon for collection and dissemination of information pertaining to security of Railways.
RPF QRTs (quick response teams) have been formed at important Railway stations to meet any eventuality. Necessary co-ordination with GRP, local police, Civil/Railway administrations and other security forces deployed in sensitive areas are being maintained at different levels. Emergency control rooms have been opened in all Divisions from 18.00 hrs of 25th January to 18.00 hrs of 26th January.
