BSF observed World Kidney Day to create awareness among jawans

World kidney Day 2016 was observed by Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF ) at Patgaon on Saturday, in an effort to raise awareness, amongst the Force personnel, of the importance of kidneys to their overall health, to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated problems.
The program which was attended by personnel of BSF HQ Patgaon, 1st Bn NDRF Bn and their family members, was inaugurated by Sh P. Raju, DIG/PSO of the Frontier, in the presence of Dr. B J Lalvani, DIG/Medical of Composite Hospital CAPF, Patgaon and Dr. S Dutta, MD of GMCH, among many other senior BSF officers.
In his opening address Sh P. Raju, DIG/PSO appreciated the efforts taken by BSF doctors to create awareness about kidney related diseases and urged upon the audience to make efforts to follow the instructions of the specialists who were here to disseminate information about ways and means to these diseases.
Addressing the audience, Dr Prasun Maiti, Chief Medical Officer (SG) of the Frontier emphasized that awareness regarding the risk factors for kidney disease was the key to combat it. Dr Azam, Medical Officer of NDRF who also spoke on the occasion, informed the audience that kidney related diseases were silent killers, which had the potential to effect quality of life. He suggested various ways and means to reduce the risk of kidney diseases.
Prof Dr. S Dutta, MD of GMCH, addressing the audience threw light on various diseases related to the liver and made them aware about the necessary precautions to be adopted to have a safe and healthy liver disease free life.
Later, the blood samples of willing persons were collected and examined by the hospital staff for any such diseases. Many BSF, NDRF personnel and their families availed this facility and benefitted from the program.
