Army Killed KPLT Defence Secretary and Apprehended C-in-C

Army Killed KPLT’s Defence Secretary and apprehended C-in-C in a surgical and swift operation on the afternoon of 27th Aug 2016 in East Karbi Anglong district.
Based on a specific intelligence input, a joint operation was launched by Army & Police on the morning of 27th Aug 2016 in general area Bheleu Ghat in East Karbi Anglong district. During the operation security forces came in contact with armed terrorists. On being challenged, one of the terrorist opened fire on the Security Forces. Own troops opened controlled retaliatory fire and in the ensuing fire-fight one KPLT terrorist was killed. The other terrorist tried to escape taking advantage of the thick jungle, but was pursued by Army and apprehended. Two pistols along with ten live rounds of ammunition, fired cases and war like stores were recovered from the terrorists.
The killed terrorist has been identified as Chingengri Kronjang, Defence Secretary of KPLT and the apprehended terrorist is the Self Styled C-in-C of KPLT(A) Moses Terrang.
The series of successful operations against in East Karbi Anglong district has dealt a severe blow to the terrorist outfit. Recently on 24 Aug 16, one KPLT terrorist was neutralised in a joint operation by Army and Police.
The Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT), earlier known as Anti-Talks Factions of Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF-ATF) was formed at an undisclosed location on January 8, 2011, with 25 cadres who formally rechristened itself as KPLT. The KLNLF-ATF was a breakaway faction of the Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF), which had laid down arms on February 11, 2010.
KLT has emerged as a new threat in the State. The KPLT is believed to have split towards the middle of 2011, when some of its members formed a new group, the Karbi National Protection Force (KNPF). However, not much is heard about the KNPF.
Since its formation this outlawed group has been indulging in rampant acts of terror to include killings of innocent citizens, kidnapping for huge ransom, extortion and spreading of fear amongst the populace, thereby impeding the development activities in the area.
The Indian Army in conjunction with Assam Police and other security forces has conducted unabated and relentless CI/CT operations against the group resulting in neutralization of 05 and apprehension of 32 Its active hardcore cadres including top leadership since January 2016.
This has lead to near decimation of the group, further resulting in building up of confidence in the populace and a fast growing self realization in the population, that the growth, development and peace in the region is only feasible by their being united and standing against such atrocities by the enemies of society
