In Assam’s Guwahati city an urban winter festival with the theme of ‘Aqua Kingdom’ Metropolis 2016 was held in a vibrant and fun-filled environment. The three-day-long extravaganza was organized by Assam Tourism and State Level Advisory Committee.
An art and photography exhibition showcasing the works of various artists of the locals also attracted many of the visitors. Tattoo artists also demonstrated live tattoo-making during the event. Acoustics Competition, Water Show and a Fashion Show were other attractions at the festival.
“Metropolis is more for the youngsters and new trends, music, art and everything here must be well appreciated. I have not seen anywhere where the youth culture is supported by state. It is doing well. I want to say that this should be supported and allowed to grow bigger,” said Alex Shimray, a Tattoo artist
“It is a very good platform for newcomers. Metropolis provides platform to everyone to showcase their creativity. People can explore as much creativity as they want on this platform. We are very happy to come to this platform. Many people are coming here and they are complimenting our work and we are very happy,” said Biswajit, a Visitor
Such festivals not only help preserve the rich cultural heritage of the northeast, but also promote tourism and unite the youth.
