Govt Would Formulate a Policy to Stream Line Sports Affairs- Khandu

Government would formulate a policy and come up with a mechanism to streamline sports affairs in the state, said Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a meeting with the executive members of Arunachal Olympic Association at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

The Chief Minister said that evolving a policy is vital for promotion and over all development of sports in the state. He opined the state needs to develop a standard format for selection of players where the three stakeholders Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Sports Authority of Arunachal and Arunachal Olympic Association must function in tandem and a coordination meeting at his office for the purpose will be called shortly.

The Chief Minister said that equal opportunities to every potential sport persons should be given and efforts should be put to harness hidden talents so that the most deserving candidates represent the state in regional, national and international events.

He emphasized on creation of proper infrastructure and better training facilities for sporting talents as the state has immense potential especially in individual sports.

Meanwhile, executive members of Arunachal Olympic Association headed by its President Padi Richo and Secretary General Abraham Techi submitted a five-point memorandum that included provision of annual grant for the Association, fund for construction of Arunachal Olympic Bhawan, placement of fund for organizing State Olympic games every two years and implementation of sports quota in all govt departments.
