Arunachal: Chowna Mein today visits Tai Khamti Singpho Museum cum Research Centre

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein today visited the Tai Khamti Singpho Museum cum Research Centre located in the campus of Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society at Chongkham. He inspected the facility and took stock of its maintenance and renovation needs. The museum cum research Centre is one of its and the only one in Namsai district. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Namsai Bijoy Talukdar and a host of heads of various departments and other administrative officers as well as officers of different departments.
After inspecting the building, in a brief interaction with members of the Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society and officers he opined that he was desirous to see the organisation regain its previous glory. He said that a museum is a storehouse of a community’s culture and heritage.
Mein said that the school run by the organisation, Arunachal Pali Vidyapith must excel in academics as well as values must also be imparted.
Mein announced for grant of corpus fund and asked to apply for grants-in-aid when apprised of the financial crunch as a result of non receipt of funds from the funding agencies. He instructed the Rural Works Department to immediately make a detailed estimate of the maintenance and renovation needs of the infrastructures in the campus especially the museum cum research centre and immediately submit for approval of sanction through the District Planning Board.
Indrajit Tingwa, Secretary of Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society briefed the Deputy Chief Minister and the officers and members present regarding the issues and needs, a summary of the funding, projects which are being undertaken and new projects which are in the pipeline and the academic report of the school. A four point memorandum was also submitted on the occasion for grant of funds for excursion, construction of boundary wall, internal roads, multi-activity cultural hall and staff barracks.
Earlier, Ven. Prajnashil Bhikkhu, President, Arunachal Pali Vidyapith Society alongwith other members, staffs, teachers and students extended a warm reception to the visiting dignitary and his entourage.
Thereafter, the DCM visited Empong village, popular for its sacred stupa and an ancient mango tree estimated to be 400 years old and held a meeting with the villagers, GBs, PRI members and listened to their grievances and assured them to look after their needs. En route, he also inspected the mega water treatment plant being constructed by the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department. The engineers from the department briefed him about the project.

Lauding the efforts of the organisation, Mein called upon various organizations of the district to join hand with the government to wage war against rampant drug use in the district.
He cautioned people to understand that the abuse of drugs not only affects the abuser’s health but also the development of the society and state.
He felt that a state level football tournament in memory of Late Indrajit Namchoom and Late Chowjit Gohain (Mein), both of whom were legendary and prominent footballer from Namsai district, ought to be organized in the state.
He informed that Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju have already sanctioned various infrastructure for development of sports in the state.
Mein said that to promote sports and games in the district he would request the Union minister to sanction a state of art stadium in Namsai district. He asked the Namsai district Sports authority to submit proposal at the earliest for further infrastructure development of Chongkham mini stadium.
He mentioned that the upcoming stadium in Namsai be dedicated in memory of Late Indrajit Namchoom and also name the polytechnic college in memory of former Minister Late C.P.Namchoom, which has to be done after following necessary codal formalities of the government.
He directed the Deputy commissioner to submit a letter to concerned state ministry to name and dedicate the stadium and college in the memories of both late Namchooms.
Earlier in the morning, Mein participated in the Seva Saptah campaign organized by Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha Namsai to observe the week long program to commemorate the 69th Birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He joined in various welfare initiatives organised by the BJYM.
