Sonowal unveiled statue of Bir Lachit Borphukan at Dinjan Military Station

Indian Army in recognition of the great Ahom General ‘Bir Lachit Borphukan and the contribution of the people of Assam towards the Nation building organized unveiling a statue (made of fibre and 07 feet tall) of the legendary General at Dinjan Military Station, Dist Dibrugarh, Assam. The statue was unveiled by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal on 05 Jun 2017. General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps and General Officer Commanding of Dao Division were present during the occasion.
Chief Minister applauded the initiative of the Indian Army for paying tribute to the great warrior and high lighted the immense contribution of Indian Army in development of Assam. He exhorted upon the audience present to emulate the qualities of ‘Bir Lachit Borphukan and take motivation from him for serving the Nation selflessly.
The Chief Minister also planted a sapling in Dinjan Military Station on the occasion of World Environment Day.
GOC Spear Corps Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, thanked the people of Assam for their trust and constant support to Armed Forces during the challenging times.
GOC Dao Division Maj Gen Ananta Bhuyan, informed that the aim of the event was to create awareness about the battle heroics as well as the contribution of the legendary General who employed profound tactics to vanquish a numerically superior Mughal Army at Battle of Saraighat. GOC Dao Division also briefed the Chief Minister on the community development activities being undertaken by the Army for the people of the region.
The event was attended by various eminent personalities including Member of Parliament Rameswar Teli, Alak Buragohain, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University and Mr Kamal Malla Bujarbarua, Vice Chancellor, Assam Agriculture University. More than 500 people attended the grand occasion and various cultural functions were also organised to mark the ceremony.
