Rumours of head hunters called MURKATTA Wandering in Changlang

Superintendent of Police, Changlang Shri Amit Sharma called an emergency meeting among PRI members, Senior Citizens, Executives members of various organizations in his Office Chamber today, to discuss the rumours of head hunters “Murkatta” wandering in Changlang dist headquarters and their involvement in human trafficking, smuggling of human organs, etc which has created ripples of panic among all walks of people in the district.

Refuting the rumours, he stated that not a single instance of such case has been reported so far in any of the Police Stations in the district. He appealed all and sundry to shun spreading rumours as it might help criminals trick victims with serious crimes citing with an example of a crime committed at Bordumsa wherein a juvenile entered a house and committed theft in disguise of driving Murkatta.
However, the SP promised to intensify night patrolling in the area with moveable as well as static patrolling team to still sense of security and confidence among the public. The SP said that ILP checking will also be intensified to check influx of antisocial elements in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Changlang,   Wayong Khimhun who was also present in the meeting appealed to people of the district not to spread baseless, unfounded and false rumours in the society. He said that every false rumour has a kind of detrimental effect citing the example of an employee of Veterinary Department who was beaten up in the night of 13th Sept last by mob suspecting him to be a member of Murkatta. He immediately issued an executive order to prohibit carrying of lethal weapon from 6 AM to 6 PM and restrict the movement of people after 9 PM unless a valid reason.
The DC also said that a meeting among the GBs will soon be convened to generate mass awareness among the villagers in this regard. Earlier PRI members, Senior Citizens, Executives members of various organizations highlighted the possible consequences out of the rumours and put forward the positive suggestions to overcome the panic situation as well as to avert untoward incidents.
It may be mentioned here the following the rumors people in large group equipped with doa, rode, axe, etc came out in the evening of 13th September last to drive away the suspected Murkatta(s).
