Modi to address NE Council’s plenary session in Shillong on Friday

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 65th Plenary session of North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on Friday. The the two-day 65th Plenary meeting of North Eastern Council (NEC) will be attended by Governors and Chief Ministers of the eight north eastern states. The meeting is expected to fast track development projects in the eight north eastern states.
On the first day of the meeting, two technical sessions on the topics of ‘Livelihood’ and ‘Entrepreneurship’ will be held. Different Central ministries will interact on the development projects in North East region. Ministries and departments including Agriculture, Rural Development, Food Processing, Textiles, North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Communication & IT, Skills, Tribal Affairs, AYUSH, MSME, Commerce and Department of Financial Services will participate in the interaction during the two technical sessions.
The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Chairman, NEC, Dr Jitendra Singh will chair the first Plenary session tomorrow. The first Plenary Session will include tabling of Action Taken Report on the 64th Plenary meeting and approval of Draft Annual Plan of NEC, 2016-17 by the Council.
Other topics to be discussed will include North East – Organic capital of the country, North Eastern Road Sector Development Scheme, Assistance for procurement of agriculture and horticulture produces including medicinal plants, Extension of runway at Umroi Airport, Shillong etc. During the second Plenary Session, discussion will be held on issues such as infrastructure and connectivity.
During the third Plenary Session to be held on May 27, 2016, various ministries and departments including Ministry of Home Affairs, Inland Waterways Authority of India, Health & Family Welfare, External Affairs and Drinking Water & Sanitation will participate in the discussions. On the same day, in the morning, Marathon race “North East leads the way- Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” will be flagged off from Polo Ground, Shillong.
