Arunachal: Poppy plantation destroyed in Longding
Longding
The Longding district administration along with police on Wednesday destroyed poppy plantations, spread across about 5-6 acres at Longkhaw village, bordering Nagaland.
Following a complaint by villagers, a team led by Longding superintendent of police Rohit Meena, circle office Ahua Wangsu, paramilitary forces and civil police completely destroyed poppy plants.
The district administration had issued executive orders urging people to refrain from poppy cultivation, however, they didn’t mend their ways and they had to pay for it, said Wangsu.
Cautioning defaulters, the circle officer added that the district administration is keeping a close watch.
“If anyone is found engaged in poppy cultivation, the district administration will deal with them with an iron hand,” said Wangsu.
Londing deputy commissioner VS Mallik reiterated that the district administration is making an all out effort to root out opium menace from the district.
He appealed to stakeholders to cooperate with the district administration to make Longding a drugs and opium free district.
