Arunachal: Khandu instructs Dist Admin for immediate relief to Roing Fire Victims

District administration has been instructed to provide immediate relief and assess the loss and damages- Pema Khandu, Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh .

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed grief and concern over the huge fire mishap at Roing that has devoured a major section of Middle Market Line of the township.

“I am saddened by the devastating fire that devoured one-fourth of Roing market yesterday evening though no loss of lives has been reported. At this moment of sorrow and loss, I pray for strength and courage to those affected and stand by them in this excruciating moment,” he said in a statement today.

Khandu expressed gratitude to the Indian Army, Central Paramilitary Forces, Assam Police Fire Services and Border Roads Organization for assisting the State Police in battling the raging inferno.

“I am in constant touch with the District Administration taking stock of the situation. The District administration has been instructed to provide immediate relief and assess the loss and damage. One of my minister colleagues has also been asked to rush to Roing to monitor the relief work,” he informed.

The district administration informed that the fire that started around 8.15 pm Tuesday could be contained after fire fighting operations through the night.

Two fire fighting trucks from Chapakhowa in Assam, one from Tezu, two from Roing fire service and three tankers from BRO and one from PHED were pressed into service to douse the spreading fire.

At least 20 families have been rendered homeless. However no casualty has been reported till now. The district administration has opened up the government Circuit House and the Anchal Samiti hall at Roing where eleven families consisting of fifty-one members have been given accommodation with food. Immediate relief materials like tarpaulin, bedding, drinking water have been provided.

As per official sources 35 shops have been completely devoured by the fire mostly run by non-APSTs. The administration has constituted a assessment committee with a Circle Officer as chairman and the DySP, DDMO and DFCSO as members. The committee will submit its assessment report by Thursday.

Immediate monetary relief as relief has been provided to all the victim families by the administration as per norms.

Situation is under control and administration is keeping strict vigil.
