Arunachal: A lady Dies in Maasive Storm

A lady died while another was, seriously injured when a massive storm lashed Changlang, Lohit and Namsai districts of Arunachal Prdesh.
Brahi Lata Chakma died and another Dachin Chakma was injured in Chongkham area of Namsai district as the storm lashed the area on February 21 last, a delayed official report informed here today.
The storm uprooted many trees while a large number of dwelling houses, government and school buildings also got damaged in all the three districts.
Many electric poles were also uprooted damaging the 33 KV and 11 KV long transmission lines resulting in disruption of power supply at Namsai district, the report said.
The areas around Parasuram Kund and Turung Reserve Forest of Wakro circle in Lohit district and Lathao and Chongkham circles of Namsai along the national highway were the worst affected.
Storms during this time of the year in the areas are an annual occurrence though the intensity and impact varies, the report said.
Meanwhile, on February 22 last, hailstorm lashed parts of Miao and Bordumsa sub-divisions of Changlang district.
Hailstones measuring 4-5inches in thickness destroyed crops in the area and also damaged a few dwellings.
Trees were uprooted and roads blocked. Restoration works have been undertaken on war footing and teams of officers have been constituted to assess actual loss, the report added.
