BJP in Itanagar observed ‘black Day’ at its party headquarters today to remember the imposition of Emergency in 1975 by the than Congress government led by Indira Gandhi.
Remembering the period of Emergency from 1975 to 1977, Minister for Power and Industry, Tamiyo Taga said that the Congress imposed Emergency for the sake of its own leaders. ‘There are only few section where emergency can be imposed in India but defying all such norms the than Prime Minister of India ,Indira Gandhi had pressed for Emergency only to save his political career’ added Taga .
While recalling the history, Taga said ‘once Indira ji was been portrait as goddess ‘ Durga ’ by former Prime Minister and BJP leader Atal Bihari Bajpayee due to her strong perception during the Bangladesh war that compelled Pakistan to surrender , but after declaration of emergency thousands of people throughout the country started agitation against her decision of imposing emergency and against the Congress leadership.
Echoing similar sentiment, BJP state Organization Secretary Ramesh Kadaganchi said ‘the Congress had murdered democracy for the benefit of its own leaders’. The decision to declare emergency was taken inside the ‘Kitchen Cabinet’ where few congress leader close to Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi attended that meeting.
Congress has no right to point fingers at the BJP led Government while having a black chapter of Emergency in past where fundamental rights has been curtailed ,lakhs of political leader from BJP and other party were arrested and rights of media has been curtailed’ slammed Ramesh. He further added that the slogan given by the than Congress leaders ‘ Indira is India –Indira is Congress’ is totalitarian and not acceptable at all.
Among others, BJP Spoke person Techi Necha and General Secretary Jarpum Gamlin briefed the gathering on the history of 24 month long Emergency imposed by the Congress in the country and its effect.
