Pune-Bodoland Bamboo Venture- Initiated by SARHAD & ABSU

New year’s Greeting from Pune-Bodoland Bamboo Venture, the joint group made a visit to different places of Bamboo plantations from 2nd January to 7th January. During this tour the team studied the verities of local Bamboo, market places, and craft items prepared from Bamboo.

The intention is to uplift economic livelily hood of Bodos by upgrading the traditional practices with the help of modern techniques, through the training programmes to be held at different places in this region on wards. According to market requirements of Maharashtra there is huge scope for bamboo poles in construction and agriculture industries as well as upcoming eco-tourism centers at the coastal and hilly areas of Maharashtra. These products made in Assam and NE region has wide scope for gift articles in business corporate sectors. As well as, the skilled labours in Bamboo from Bodoland has also wide scope to erect tourism houses in Maharashtra, there is another scope for semi finished products which are to be finished in Maharastra.

There is awareness for these eco-friendly Bamboo products in Maharashtra for bamboo curtains, all type of bamboo fittings like curtain rods, towel rods wall hangings, door handles, vegetable containers, food trays  and basketry items to replace plastic products.

Bamboo grows traditionally in large scale in North East area but due to lack of market linkage has not given proper values. The team has decided to develop bamboo poles Collection centers, crafts-men training centers, production clusters through the Bodoland region. The is also going to introduce some new valuable verities of Bamboo species to get more output and better quality from the same area and man power with the help of ABSU and SARHAD. This was the primary visit led by Rajendra Sapkal. The members included in this team were Mr. Pramod More, Ajit Thakur, Arvind Sapkal, Kishore Sonawane, Sambhaji Jagtap, Raghunath Sakpal, Akash More and Sagar More participated. Visited people are from different fields like trading, arts and design, horticulture, banking, company management, tourism and Students .The team will be continued by another entrepreneurs and experts periodically with different activities. During this tour the team visited Baksa, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Kamrup and Golaghat district of Assam and interacted with crafts men and local Bamboo traders as well as some of the Bamboo industries in Assam. Also the team visited Mr. V. V. Solanki Secretary to CM of Assam and Mr. Kamesh Salam of World Bamboo Association. Both of them appreciated the intention of the mission and assured to cooperate for any requirement.

During the visit team got the experience of peaceful living, culture and cooperation from the people of different places.
