Buddha Jayanti is recognized as the thrice sacred day that marks the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of Lord Buddha. While Buddha was born in Lumbini in present day Nepal, he attained sambodhiprapti in Bodhgaya in Bihar. In Sarnath, he set in motion the wheel of the Dharma, and finally attained mahaparinirvana in Kushinagar.

In order to celebrate these historic occasions that changed the religious and spiritual discourse of human civilization, it is important that Buddha Jayanti is celebrated in befitting manner here in State. It is therefore TBS & IBCS proposed to celebrate this auspicious occasion on a grand manner on May 10 from 7 AM onwards at Thupten Gatselling Monastery Itanagar. Annually mass procession of the Buddhist devotees along with the statues and images of Lord Buddha is the major attraction of the celebration here in Capital region and this year the procession will start from Theravada Buddhist Monastery Vivek Vihar and culminate at Thupten Gatselling Monastery Itanagar. Blood donation camp will be also organized by the TBS & IBCS members in collaboration with State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) Department of Health Service and R.K Mission Hospital Itanagar on May 10 at Thupten Gatselling Monastery Itanagar.

To oversee the organization of these celebrations, a joint organizing committee from the members of TBS and IBCS has been set up under the Chairmanship of veteran administrator and Sahitya Academy awardee Y.D Thongchi.
