seminar on “Ethnicity, livelihood and culture change among the Himalayan people: anthropology and beyond” held at RGU

Prof. TB. Subha, Department of Anthropology NEHU, Shillong and former Vice Chancellor Sikkim University delivered the key note speech. He mentioned the diverse resources of the Himalayas and their degradation because of over exploration.

A two day international seminar on “Ethnicity, livelihood and culture change among the Himalayan people: anthropology and beyond” was inaugurated on 23rd September 2019 at the AITS (Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies) conference hall, RGU Rono hills, Doimukh.
Prof. Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri, Director, IGRMS (Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya) Bhopal introduced the seminar, its themes and objectives.
Prof. TB. Subha, Department of Anthropology NEHU, Shillong and former Vice Chancellor Sikkim University delivered the key note speech. He mentioned the diverse resources of the Himalayas and their degradation because of over exploration.
Yumlam Kaha, Director, Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal affairs and the guest of honor of the inaugural function, mentioned the significance of diverse flora and fauna of the Himalayas which has to be tapped for utility purposes.  He opined that these resources fulfill human needs. He was very skeptical of the over population of the Himalayas resources.
Prof. Tamo Riba, Registrar in-charge of the RGU chaired the inaugural function. He mentions the tough life of the hilly people and opined that we should be making such environment for human benefits. Because of the Himalayas, he says our country India has enough rainfall which feeds many people.
Prof. H. Vokendro Singh,Head of Department, Anthropology and Coordinator of the seminar, welcome all the dignitaries, invitees and participants in his welcome address to the seminar.
Different technical concurrent sessions were delivered by different researchers.
