Itanagar- RP Upadhyaya takes charge as DGP Arunachal Pradesh

Mr Upadhyaya, a 1991 batch IPS officer of  Arunachal Pradesh, Goa , Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre,  succeeded SBK Singh, who has been transferred to Mizoram.

Rajender Pal Upadhyaya on Saturday took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh.

Mr Upadhyaya, a 1991 batch IPS officer of  Arunachal Pradesh, Goa , Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre,  succeeded SBK Singh, who has been transferred to Mizoram.

Before being appointed as DGP, he was Commissioner to Arunachal Pradesh Governor.

Mr Upadhyaya, while addressing the media after taking charge as DGP at Police Headquarters here, said, “Our first and foremost duty is the protection of life and property of common citizen. We will dour best and provide better police administration to the people of Arunachal Pradesh.”

In the coming days, importance will be given to provide secure environment for citizens and improve police visibility, he stated.

For improving traffic condition, Mr Upadhyaya said, “Very soon, we will try to create a traffic wing, specially trained to regulate and handle the traffic on the roads of the city.”

In terms of capacity building, the DGP said his priority would be to strengthen the cyber capabilities and  modernising training wings.

Emphasising on welfare of the police force, he said, “Until and unless we have a force which is properly trained and equipped  they will not be able to deliver . So, welfare of the force will be my priority.”

Earlier, on his arrival at the Police Headquarters,  Mr Upadhyaya was  given the guard of honour. Outgoing DGP and senior police officials were also present on the occasion.
