The Indian Army and the Bodoland Territorial Council ( BTC ) have joined hands to provide a common platform for unleashing the passion of youth in the Districts of Chirang, Kokrajhar, Baksa & Udalguri to demonstrate their talent at the most thrilling sport in Assam. The event was organised with an aim of tapping the unexplored potential of the youth in BTAD, promoting unity and spreading goodwill among the people.
The Gajraj Corps and the Red Horns Division, bringing forth their vision of alleviating the problems of the youth and weaning them away from the path of violence, have made a comprehensive roadmap under the Operation Sadbhavana Project, of which the BTC – Army Goodwill Football Premier League 2016 -17 was a part which was successfully conducted with great enthusiasm and excitement.
The grand ceremony for the final match took place on Saturday at Kokrajhar. The final was played between Baksa Bisons and Royal FC (A) Chirang. Baksa Bisons defeated Royal FC (A) Chirang by a penalty shootout 4-2 and lifted the BTC – Army Goodwill Football Premier League Trophy. The match was a event of rare sporting frenzy and nail biting moments, which started with the unveiling of the Championship trophy.
The event also witnessed the performance by cultural group of Kokrajhar, a dance by Miss Masoom Narzary and band display by the Army. This gave a platform not only for the sports talent of the BTAD but also showcased the rich culture of the Bodoland. Never had such a large crowd witnessed a football match in the history of Kokrajhar at SAI Stadium, in which today approx 5000 people were present. The rich cultural programme of Bodoland was appreciated by the large numbers of dignitaries. During the event, the Indian Army also organised a Weapon Display and Medical Camp, which attracted a large number of audience.
Maj Gen Ravi Prasad, VSM, Officiating GOC, Gajraj Corps and The Deputy BTC Chief, Shri Kampa Borgoyary presented the Championship Trophy and a cheque of Rupees Two lakh to the winners Baksa Bisons, while Maj Gen Ravi Prasad, VSM presented the runner-up trophy alongwith a cheque of Rupees One Lakh to Royal FC(A) Chirang. Maj Gen Rajeev Sirohi, VSM, GOC, Red Horns Division presented the third prize to Binko Sporting Club Kokrajhar, which was a cheque of Rupees Fifty Thousand. The event was also witnessed by dignitaries including BTC Deputy Chief, Shri Kampa Borgoyary, Shri Hemanta Narzary, IAS, Principal Secretary, Govt of Assam, Dr Lajja Ram Bishnoi IGP (BTAD) & ADGP (Railway), Brig Hitten Sawhney, SM, BTC Executive Members and DC / SP of Kokrajhar. This event will greatly enhance the bonhomie between the youth & soldiers of the Indian Army and will contribute towards peace and stability in Assam.
