Arunachal: 4th University Soccer League kicks off
Eighteen teams from within the campus are participating in the soccer league which will conclude on October 22 next.

The fourth edition of the University Soccer League was kicked off here at the varsity’s general ground Friday afternoon.
In the opening match, defending champion, Bachelors in Physical Education department defeated RGU Research Scholars’ Forum by 4-0.
This annual event is being jointly organized by the Officers Club RGU, RGU Students’ Union, RGU Research Scholars’ Forum, RGU Teachers’ Association, EGU Employees’ Association, and Alumni Association RGU.

Chief Guest of the inaugural day, Kipa Ajay, Honorary Secretary Arunachal Pradesh Football Association in his brief speech thanked the University for helping football grow as a popular sport in the state.
Stating that events like USL are positive signs for the development of sports in the state, he urged the organizers to continue holding this sporting activity in order to promote football in higher education institutes as well.
“Our youths have the potential to represent national levels as well because football is in our spirit. We only have to tap it and guide them in the right direction for which the APFA has already begun work on changing the dynamics of football in the state. Hopefully state-of-art infrastructures will come up soon in our state to aid our budding sportspersons,” the honorary secretary said.
Encouraging players to give their best, he urged upon the players to take the opportunity to learn from their fellow players as it is through sports friendship is created and the barriers are broken.
Informing that the football federation is conducting super league in the coming months, he also urged RGU students to take part in it.
Further, he assured the organizers to provide 10 footballs and a set of goal nets in the next edition of the USL.
Guest of honor Yasi Nalo Sonam, President, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (state unit) congratulated RGU for organizing the tournament saying that such tournament will help youths to explore and showcase their talent. She also appreciated the perseverance of the players who stood unbroken despite the heavy downpour.
Earlier, welcome address was given by Dr. Gibji Nimasow, Chairman OCRGU. Convenor of the tournament Dr. Sambhu Prasad administered the oath-taking of the players and also gave the vote of thanks. The program was led by organizing Secretary Solung Sonam.
