Arunachal: 3rd State level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy begins

The third edition of the state level Hangpan Dada memorial trophy on football and volleyball got-off at the Jubilee ground today in a glittering manner.
Addressing the players and officials during the opening ceremony, Dr Mohesh Chai, Minister Sports and Youth Affairs as chief guest said greatest sports event of the state is named after Ashok Chakra late Hangpan Dada as homage who laid down his life during fighting terrorists in 2016.
Citing the games & sports as career making, he appeals the participates to play the games with dedication as like that of soldier who putting their life at risk fought for the country and brought laurel.
“We are giving top priority to promote games and Sports. Our govt. is committed to build –up infrastructures to facilitate conducive atmosphere to the players, he vows.
He recalls contributions of havaldar Hangpan Dada Ashok Chakra, Kriti Chakra who speaks volumes about the patriotism of Arunachalees.
Zingnu Namchoom, MLA Namsai as guest of honour appeals to the players to play the game in true sportsmanship spirit, to pay befitting tribute to this great soldier. He also advises the players to get rid of Drugs Menace and any other addictions.
Later, the chief guest light the tournament lamp and unfurled the tournament flag. As mark of respect to the martyr his wife Chosen was also invited as special guest on the occasion. In her tearful speech, she extended heartfelt gratitude to the state govt. for honoring by naming the tournament after her husband name.
Altogether 23 teams representing the districts of the state are in the 10 (ten) days of competition for the coveted football and volleyball in both men’s and women’s categories.
In the inaugural first & second football match of the tournament, Lower Siang beat Lohit by a solitary goal and Anjaw & Tirap draw their match.
Karma Leki DC Lohit in his welcome speech ensures better accommodation and food for the players. He further advises them to abide by the rules and regulation of the organizing committee and the district administration for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the tournament.
Earlier, Tadar Appa Sports director highlighted the first and second edition of Hangpan Dada memorial trophy. He also gives thrust to improvise the event by involving players from national team to guide the local players.
He also revealed the prizes of men’s winner Rs 5,00000, women’s Rs 3,00000 in football and Rs 200000 men’s winner and 100000 women’s winner and best players in football and volleyball for both men and women is Rs 10,000 each.
Besides, Dani Salu Secretary Sports, DW Thungon SP Lohit, Sujan Chai spouse of Minister, Army officials from 82 Mountain Brigade, HoDs, senior citizen and general public also participated during the opening ceremony.
