Water supply problem to be resolved by August 15- PHED

Top official of Government of Arunachal Pradesh inspected the ongoing work progress of restoration of water supply system at Poma area and Naharlagun today.

Principal Secretary (Home) Satya Gopal, Commissioner (PHE) H. K. Shalla, Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Complex Prince Dhawan, Chief Engineer Toko Jyoti, SE (HQ) Tayum Tok Camdir, Executive Engineer Itanagar Division Tadar Mangku, Itanagar AE Debia Padang and other official of PHED and local administration visited almost all the damaged asset of PHED department which was either washed away or damaged and un-repairable and also to those site of restoration work at 2 KM ahead of intake point in Poma river, and hanging bridge near helipad at Naharlagun.

The officers were very much concern on the large scale damaged caused by the torrential rain and landslide triggered by heavy downpour in June and July and such damages have happened never before to the water supply system to both township at a time in Itanagar as well as Naharlagun,

After inspecting all the site and ongoing restoration work near Poma intake point and near Helipad Principle Secretary (Home) S Gopal said that underway work progress is being maintained 24×7 and we have fixed deadline 15 August and we are expected that everything will be normalised latest by August 15. The water pipeline of Poma and Borum are from which distribution to Itanagar as well Naharlagun will be managed.

Apart of the present line an alternate pipeline for Naharlagun will be arranged vie Papu Nallah through TAH roadside by August 15 so that in case of any disaster again one water supply continue to remain in use. For Poma we are also worrying and planning for an alternate arrangement and a proposal/scheme for the same is being taken under current RE of the government.

We have a meeting under the chairmanship of Chef Secretary yesterday wherein it was discussed for providing of potable drinking water to the citizens in the interest of public service. Due to natural disaster it is mandatory to have and responsibility of the government to act upon in the period of nature fury, even department of health have been directed to be ready in case of any outbreak of disease due to use of dirty water or contaminated water, he appeal for use of water after boiling and take precautionary after treated water to avoid any outbreak of epidemic. He wanted that the educated citizens may educate other family members in this regard.

Gopal said that on temporary  arrangement we have been providing water through tanker and small lorry and more than 85 vehicle have been deployed in different sector of the Itanagar and Naharlagun. There is no alternative arrangement of water supply and a scheme is being prepared and putup this year for poma and Naharlagun as well in the current financial year.

When asked about augmentation he said that a scheme for Augmentation of the water supply system was prepared in PM package last year it rune to 100 crore and once it is approved it will be implemented so that the system remain smooth and distribution to the citizens. A report is being prepared which would send to higher authority as well action will be taken as per the proposal.

PHED, Chief Engineer Toko Jyoti while enlisting the work progress said that earlier the base of the hanging bridge near helipad was 8 mtrs and now we are trying to get into 20 mtrs, piling is being done, meantime the RCC work is started, while 14 trucks loaded with pipes and other materials were stopped at Srirampur gate in name of GST and halted there for more than four days, the hanging bridge shall be completed by next one month, In the mean time the alternate surface supply system will be done once the pipe is received and after received we shall need hardly ten days to restored water supply for Naharlagun,

Itanagar PHE Executive Engineer, Tadar Mangku while said that we have been doing our best service for the people of capital complex and it was our unfortunate that human being is helpless before nature but we have learn a lesion and apart of restoration and repairing we are planning for an alternate arrangement and water supply system for both Itanagar and Naharalgun for which we are preparing scheme and proposal so that repeatedly the suffering is reduced. He said local lines to many sector and colony have been restored in Naharlagun township as RKM Hospital in Itanagar and TRIMSH at Naharlagun have been connected and water supply problems have been resolved to some extend, even though have patience we shall believe the hard labour and hope till than the weather remain dry and sunny Mangku said.
