Itanagar: One student dies, one Injured in a road accident

One student died on the spot and another sustained grievous injury after being hit by a speeding bus at around 9.40 this morning on NH-415 near Punjabi Dhaba between C-D Sector in Itanagar.

The deceased was identified as Apsana Talukdar, 17 years old, daughter of Allauddin Talukdar a student of Class XI (Humanities) of Government Higher Secondary School, Itanagar. While the injured, Manoj Barman is a student of Class-X studying in the same school. Barman was shifted to nearby RK Mission Hospital for treatment and his condition is stated to be stable.

The driver of the ill-fated bus was identified as Sunil Chawrasia and taken into custody for further investigation by capital police. Sunil was working as a contingency staff in the Horticulture department and assigned as the driver of the staff bus.  Reportedly when the incident happened, around 25-28 persons were inboard and was on its way from Naharlagun to Itanagar Gohepur Tinali.

Itanagar Police sources said a case has been registered and after post-mortem, the body of the deceased has been handed over to the relatives for conducting the last rite.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the bus was in drunken condition and reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The impact was so strong that after hitting the duo, the bus hit a Tata mobile bearing registration NO- AR 01 D 8453 which was parked on the roadside.

Upon being informed, large numbers of local people including shopkeepers shut down their shutters and gathered near the police station to see the deceased body. The parents of the deceased reportedly running a small utensil shop in Gandhi Market. Out of four children, Apsana was the 3^rd and currently residing here at P Sector, Itanagar.

Meanwhile, the Government Higher Secondary School during the morning observed a condolence prayer for the declared a day off as a mark of respect for the departed soul to rest in peace.
