Arunachal: Youths Risk Lives to Save Boy Swept Away by Subansiri River
The Subansiri River, swollen by continuous heavy rainfall and suspected cloudburst activity upstream, nearly swept away a 12-year-old boy before two local youths rescued him.

DAPORIJO- Two youths in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district rescued a 12-year-old boy from drowning in the swollen Subansiri River amid dangerous flood conditions triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region.
According to local reports, the incident occurred near Daporijo when the boy reportedly went close to the riverbank to collect firewood. The river, which has been overflowing following intense rainfall over the past several days, suddenly swept the child away in its strong current.
Witnesses said Kuki Hali and Baku Ropuk noticed the boy struggling in the turbulent water and immediately rushed to rescue him. Despite the hazardous flood conditions and strong current, the two youths entered the river and managed to bring the child to safety.

The Subansiri River has witnessed a sharp rise in water levels since Wednesday night, reportedly due to heavy rainfall and suspected cloudburst activity in upstream catchment areas. Floodwaters carrying large logs, uprooted trees and debris have been flowing downstream, raising concerns among residents living near the riverbanks.
Several fishes were also reportedly washed ashore as the floodwaters surged through the area. Authorities and local residents have repeatedly cautioned people against venturing near the river during the ongoing floods.

Residents of Daporijo and nearby areas have praised the courage and quick response shown by the two youths, noting that their intervention prevented what could have turned into a fatal accident amid the worsening flood situation in Upper Subansiri district.
The incident comes at a time when multiple parts of Arunachal Pradesh are experiencing heavy rainfall, flooding and damage to infrastructure, with district administrations issuing advisories urging caution near rivers and landslide-prone areas.
