Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has extended his warm greetings on International Day of Yoga , which is celebrated worldwide on 21st June every year.

Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for proposing the ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in India to be made an international agenda which eventually got a positive nod from United Nations,  Khandu said that the popularity of Yoga continues to grow globally.

The United Nations General Assembly, while recognising the importance of Yoga which provides a holistic approach to health and well-being, declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’ in the month of December 2014, soon after Modi had proposed for adopting a resolution on Yoga.  UN observed that to raise global awareness about the benefits of the ancient Indian practice,  wider dissemination of information about its benefits would be beneficial for the health of the world population. The resolution on ‘International Day of Yoga’ at the United Nations saw 177 nations joining as co-sponsors, the highest number ever for any General Assembly resolution.

Yoga promotes a holistic development of mind, body and soul and is a practice that connects the body, mind, and spirit through different body postures, meditation, and controlled breathing. By channeling the internal energies of the body and mind, it frees the body of diseases and stress and also brings it closer to its existential reality in the universe, Khandu said.

He called upon the people of the state to actively participate in celebrating the International Yoga Day and try making Yoga a regular morning affair. “A healthy mind, a healthy body and a healthy character will determine a healthy state and a healthy country”, CM said.

Khandu will personally be attending a Yoga Shivir at Itanagar on 21st June with his ministers, MLA colleagues, top bureaucrats, officers and staff of the secretariat at Arunachal Pradesh State Civil Secretariat.
