Chief Minister Pema Khandu today launched the ‘Smart Classroom’ project at Govt. Higher Secondary School here, under the Chief Minister’s Adhunik Shiksha Yojana.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister hoped that with the introduction of ‘Smart Classroom’ using the Knowledge Yan (K-Yan), it would give a big push to Arunachal’s education sector ushering in a bright future for the coming generation.
He informed that the ‘Smart Classroom’ project was undertaken through a tri-partite agreement between state’s education and IT department and EdCIL (India) Limited. As per the agreement, the project would be introduced in govt-run primary, upper-primary, secondary and higher-secondary schools in the coming three years.
In phase one of implementation, 713 govt-run schools will be covered that includes 100 higher secondary schools, 182 secondary schools, 178 upper primary schools and 253 primary schools, informed the Chief Minister.
He further informed that 21 master trainers and 1097 teachers across 21 districts have been imparted training on ‘Smart Classroom’, out of which 103 teachers are from state capital region.
The Chief Minister said it might take some time for the teachers to familiarize themselves with the electronic teaching devices and might face some problems. But with time such trivial issues can be overcome when we understand the myriad advantages the use of technology in classroom teachings offers.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of EdCIL Company and the state education department for creating a rich content of information in the K-Yan device as teaching aid for students from kindergarten to Class XII. He informed that content for Hindi teaching will be completed by August this year.
He also said the teaching device uses rich multimedia platform that can display visual contents using videos and pictures, which will empower the teachers and students in their teaching and learning experience.
Complex topics can be made easy to understand using visual contents, said the Chief Minister and emphasized on strengthening the training process for teachers to familiarize them with the teaching kit.
Touching upon the issue of poor educational performance of the state, the Chief Minister said that the no detention policy in primary classes has severely affected the efficiency of the state’s educational system. He said he is against the no detention policy and would remain so in future as well.
He announced that from this year on wards, board exams will be introduced for Class V and Class VIII. Through such system, he hoped that it would bring in sincerity among teachers, students and parents. He said that education cannot be left alone to teachers and students but emphasized on role of parents as well. He said a collaborated effort of teachers, students and parents is must for quality education for children.
He also appealed the education department officials to take review of education system in state, district and in all rural levels. He urged them to nurture young mind for bright future of the state.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Speaker Tenzing Norbu Thongdok spoke on the achievement the state has made in education sector. He said that education has come a long way from traditional classroom teaching to introduction of smart classrooms.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein emphasized on backup plan for successful implementation of smart classroom and assured state government’s support in creating such infrastructure and facilities.
Education Minister Honchun Ngandam appealed the students from tribal community to come out from their fear of Maths and Science subjects. He said smart classroom will be successful when the tribal students develop smart attitude.
Education Parliamentary Secretary Pani Taram termed the occasion as historic and welcomed the launching of smart classroom concept. He said this will revolutionise the teaching system.
Chief Secretary Satya Gopal, Commissioner Education Hage Kojeen, EdCIL CMD Diptiman Das and Education Special Secretary Mitali Namchoom also spoke on the occasion.
Also present on the occasion were RD Minister Alo Libang, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kamlung Mossang, Parliamentary Secretaries Nyamar Karbak, Tamar Murtem, Tesam Pongte, Tatung Jamoh, including legislators Olom Panyang and Tsering Tashi.
