Support to Farmers for Organic Farming

East Siang DC Isha Khosla has asked to provide hand holding support to the farmers for the success of the Mission Organic Value Chain Development(MOVCD) in East Siang, adding that as the scheme is not a simple welfare scheme, but for promoting organic commercial farming with emphasis on farmers ownership on cluster based approach, the DC also asked to create awareness among the farmers on the goals of the MOVCD-NER.
The DC was chairing the District Executive Committee members Meeting of Mission Organic Value Chain Development here today at DC Conference hall. The District Agriculture officer(DAO),Y Jamoh Lego, District Horticulture Officer,(DHO),O. Tabing,District Veterinary Officer(DVO), Representatives of Service provider ,Oppu Engineering and Agro Services(OEAS),Shri Tadar Gandhi and Tushar Ghosh ,progressive farmers attended the meeting among others.
Under the Scheme, under which 500 ha are to covered and certified organic in East Siang of the 5000 ha in AP, aim is to develop organic commercial farming through Farmers Producer Companies and ensuring value addition by processing, packaging,branding and marketing through e-commerce.
The DC suggested asked the Department of agriculture and Service provider to take expertise of ATMA and KVK and asked to make quareterly Action Plan. DC also stressed on identifyting the farmers .While referring to the successful implementation under NERCOMP, she asked the stakeholders to replicate the same efforts with a Mission Mode approach.
Earlier,Consultant Tushar Ghosh,OEAS,in his PPT,said that MOVCD, aims to develop an integrated farm-t0-fork value chain for farmers of NE,providing direct access to National and International Market for their value added premium products and scheme targets for production of commodities which have a high commercial prospects.He also sought dedicated support of AFAs at village level.
