Tsering Tashi inaugurates 6th Late Dorjee Khandu memorial district level badminton tournament

The inaugural session was also attended by Mrs Rinchin Drema wife of late Dorjee Khandu, former Chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh along with other family members. Rajesh Thakur Commandant 38th Bn SSB Tawang graced the opening session as Guest of honour.

While welcoming all the dignitaries here at Jang sports club Addl. DC Jang Cum Chairman Jang sports Club Lobsang wangchu Bapu, conveyed his gratitude for giving Jang sports club to organize the tournament and lauded MLA Tsering Tashi and Family members of Late Dorjee Khandu for their constant support in making any event a grand success in Jang in particular and Tawang in general.

Speaking on the occasion Secretary Jang Sports Club Dr. Rinchin Neema said that this tournament is an annual event since 2012, and being sponsored by the family members of Late Dorjee Khandu.

The Three Clubs viz Lungla Sports Club, Tawang Sports Club and Jang Sports Club members, participating in this tournament. This year women veteran and under 19 category has been included in the tournament to encourage the working women to come forward and show their talent, while at the same time we want to give platform to the young players to increase their performance and represent at state and national level.

Dr. Rinchin further informed that from the coming year the nomenclature of the tournament will be changed to late Dorjee Khandu Tawang premier league, and remembered the contribution of late Dorjee Khandu in popularizing badminton in our state.

Chief guest of the occasion Tsering Tashi, MLA Tawang said this tournament is very close to our family. He recalled that late Dorjee Khandu was very fond of Badminton and used to encourage every one to play it, so as a tribute to him we have started this tournament. I congratulate and convey my gratitude to some of the senior citizens who had played badminton with my father and are participating in this tournament.

Mentioning about the young players from Lungla he said it is an great achievement for us that these young players are coming up and we hope to see them playing at national and at international levels in near future, we need to encourage our youngsters at Tawang and Jang also by engaging coaches like Lungla.

He further conveyed his best wishes to all the team members and players for their game, and said I have high expectations from our MP, Kiren Rijiju who is also the union minister of Sports and youth affairs will initiate lots of new projects in our area towards development of games and sports.
