Story Behind the conceptualisation and designing of Arunachal Pradesh Tableau for Republic Day Celebration 2017.

You Know that the Arunachal Pradesh’s tableau on ‘YAK DANCE’ was adjudged the best among the States/UT Tableaux, followed by Tripura in the 2nd place. Maharastra and Tamil Nadu tableau received 3rd prize, jointly.

Here is the story behind the conceptualisation and designing of Arunachal Pradesh Tableau for Republic Day Celebration 2017.

An internal meeting for theme selection and design preparation of State Tableau for presentation at Republic Day Tableau 2017 was held among the officials of Art and Exhibition Cell in the month of April 2016 followed by Director level meeting for selection of the same. Five themes were selected for the design preparation.

  • Nyokum FestivalTeam Arunachal 2nd Runner-UP in R-Day Tableau Contingents
  • Freedom struggle at Kekkar Monying in 1911-12
  • Yak dance
  • Murung Festival
  • Carpet Making

After preparation of 5 designs, State level selection committee was formed, consisting of Secretary IPR, Director Tourism, Director Research, Director IPR, Dy. Director IPR and Art Expert of IPR Deptt. Basing on the suitability of designs as per Ministry of Defence, GoI, New Delhi’s Tableau design instructions, the Committee approved three designs for presentation to the Expert Committee; viz 1. Nyokum Festival 2. Yak dance 3. Freedom Struggle at Kekkar Monying in 1911-12. Murung Festival and Carpet Making designs were kept as reserves.

Expert Committee meetings are held for selection of Tableau designs of all the States/Union Territories and Ministries of India. Tableaux of seventeen States/Union Territories and six Ministries were selected for the Republic Day Celebration Tableau Parade 2017.

Out of the three designs presented at the Expert Committee meeting by our state, ‘Yak Dance’ was selected as state tableau by the Expert Committee. It was designed and conceptualized by Dhruba Bhattacharjee, Art Expert and assisted by  Roto Tadi and  Sangey Tsewang, Artists. Research work and innovative inputs were made by Hage Habung, Exhibition Assistant. Model preparation and Tableau fabrication were awarded to M/s Adland Publicity, Kolkota through an open tender.

A total of 8 rounds of meetings were attended by the staffs of IPR department till final selection of the design for presentation at the Republic Day Tableau Parade 2017. Staffs of IPR Department who represented Arunachal Pradesh Tableaux 2017 in the meetings are Deputy Director IPR Michi Kani, Art Expert  Dhruba Bhattacharjee, Exhibition Assistant Hage Habung and Artist Roto Tadi. Additional Resident Commissioner Smti Jigmi Choden and PRO Ms Higio Zarngam of Arunachal Bhawan, New Delhi also accompanied our staffs at several rounds of Expert Committee meetings. Several more rounds of Expert committee meetings were held on music composition and its modification, later.

Officials assigned responsibilities for Team Arunachal Tableau 2017 are-

  • Kesang Ngurup Damo,DRC Arunachal Bhawan as Nodal Officer to the participating team at New Delhi.
  • Dhruba Bhattacharjee, Art Expert as Overall Incharge/Group Leader.
  • Hage Habung, Exhibition Assistant as Second Group Leader and Escort.
  • Roto Tadi, Artist as Tableau Fabrication Supervisor and Escort.
  • Sangey Tsewang as Tableau Fabrication Supervisor.
