PD Sona, Tesam Pongte elected as Speaker, Dy Speaker of Arunachal Assembly

Ruling BJP legislators from Mechuka PD Sona and Changlang North Tesam Pongte on Tuesday were unanimously elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Seventh Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh, a day after they filed nominations for the respective posts.

As soon as the House assembled for the day’s business, Pro-tem Speaker Phosum Khimhun announced election of full time Speaker.

“One nomination received for the post of Speaker. PD Sona’s name was  proposed by Balo Raja and seconded by Laisam Simai. As there is only one nomination , I am pleased to declare PD Sona as Speaker of the House,” the Pro-tem Speaker said.

Congratulating Sona for being unanimously elected as Speaker, Khimhun requested him to come and occupy the Chair.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Home Minister Bamang Felix and Congress legislator Ninong Ering accompanied Sona  to the Speaker chair.

Extending his congratulations to Mr Sona on behalf of the people of state  in the House, Mr Khandu said, “We got a good Speaker. From day one all the members have proposed his name.”

He further asked the newly elected Speaker to strengthen the secretariat whether it is related to manpower or infrastructure and assured whatever requirement is there the Government will support.

The newly elected Speaker after taking the Chair, in his address to the House said, “I am immensely grateful for being elected unanimously. It’s a great privilege and  honour.I assure that while discharging my duties , I will be transparent and give equal opportunity to every members.”

Then after that the Speaker announced  Tesam Pongte has been elected unanimously as one nomination has been received for the same post.

“There was one nomination for Deputy Speaker. I am pleased to declare Tesam Pongte as Deputy Speaker,” the Speaker said.

The members of the House including Chief Minister extended congratulations to Mr Pongte .

In his address the newly elected Deputy Speaker said, “I want to thank all the members for unanimously electing me as Deputy Speaker”

Congratulating Speaker, Mr Pongte said, “To give assistance to yuou as Deputy Speaker, I will try my best to assist you without bias  I will try to run the House.”
