Arunachal: 3 centers of excellence in Sports will be established in state- Rijiju

Three 3 centers of excellence in Sports will be established in Arunachal Pradesh and State will organized Northeast Youth Festival this year, announced by Kiren Rijiju.

Union MoS for Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju on Saturday announced that 3 centers of excellence in Sports will be established in Itanagar to facilitate the young talents of the state with the basic facilities for sports excellence and to groom them under top coaches.

This announcement was made after a co-ordination meeting with CM, Pema Khandu, Dy CM Chowna Mein, Sport Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Mama Natung, and R.S Julanyia, Secretary for Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India here at Itanagar today.

At the press briefing held at the conference Hall of the Chief Minister office at AP Civil Secretariat, Rijiju informed that the center of excellence will be established for martial arts, weightlifting and boxing respectively. “These three centers will be initiated with 100 each capacity residence facilities along with basic infrastructure and facilities for an academy,”.

The Martial Arts academy will be established for Judo, Karate, Teakwondo and Wushu while the existing SAI boxing academy will be upgraded to centre of excellence, he added.

Taking cognizance of the people’s interest in football in the state and the lack of facilities, Rijiju said that 12-15 Astro turf football grounds will be established in different districts in the next three years. “The location for the establishing the Astro turf grounds will be decided by the State Government,” he added stating that funding will be initiated once proposal is received from the state government.

He also said that the central and the state government will work towards starting academy for other sports like archery, athletes etc. “Each district has their potential and based on the potentials, the central govt  will provide fund under ‘Khelo India’ added Rijiju.

He also announced that North East Youth Festival will be held in Arunachal Pradesh this year. “In the near future, I will try for National Youth Festival, but for that, basic facility for accommodation is required,” said Rijiju.
