Rally to mark Vasectomy fortnight and create awareness on Vasectomy

To create awareness on vasectomy, on the occasion of Vasectomy fortnight, health & family welfare Parliamentary Secretary Phurpa Tsering flagged off a rally on Tuesday on the theme ‘Zimmedar Purush Ki Yahi Hai Pehchan Parivar Niyojan ko Jo De Yogdaan’.
Students of Arunachal Nursing School and government higher secondary school, Arunodaya participated in the rally which started from IG Park Tennis Court to R K Mission hospital here. A skit on the importance of vasectomy was also performed by the students of Hornbill school here and an essay competition was also conducted on Monday, to mark the day.
Launching the vasectomy fortnight, Tsering called upon all the male members of a respective family to adopt vasectomy. Informing that female sterilization is more complicated than male sterilization, Tsering urged to men to share the responsibility with women in population control.
Family welfare director Dr K Lego said vasectomy is a non-invasive minor surgical procedure and is the safest and effective birth control method.
Adding that the level male sterilization is very poor due to lack of awareness, Dr Lego stressed on concerted effort to increase the male participation in controlling family size and stabilizing the population growth.
Underscoring the importance of vasectomy, senior gynaecologist Bombey Tayeng of Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences informed that male sterilization can be done in 15 to 30 minutes, and the pain is minimal and complication is rare under local anaesthetic. It does not affect the male hormones, she added.
