Ering helped the women by giving them 400 empty plastic bags and announced a sanction of Rs five lakhs for the anti-erosion measure.
Ering told the villagers , that he would write about the situation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking central assistance for implementing anti-erosion project at Siang and control the river flow.
It may be recalled that erosion posed by Siang River rendered 10 families homeless at Serum village last month, while it has gripped several acres of fertile cropland in downstream areas.
Surging water of the river also flooded in low lying Namsing and Mer-Gadum areas and damaged standing crops.
Talking with media Ering said that, ” the massive destruction in the form of soil erosion is taking place due to excessive siltation in the river bed after Siang river water turned full of muddy and high turbidity last year.
“Need of the hour is to drench out the siltation from river bed right from Raneghat bridge to Oiramghat (covering around 30 KM) and then construct the river embankment. To carry out this project massive funding of around Rs. 2000 crores will be required, else the Siang basin at these areas and the villages situated at both side of the river bank will lost their existence anytime soon”, added Ering.
