The criminalization of Police Department with the police personnel involved in brutal crimes using the guns and pistols, involvement in illegal drugs trafficking, including the brutal killing of Anti Dam activist protester at Tawang by police personnel, assault on a journalist, shooting with sophisticated guns in public places in Naharlagun are not only crime but a threats to humanity.
Concerning over the increasing crime rate NEHRO AP unit has demanded State govt. to recruitment of sufficient Police in State and infrastructure development saying that the strength of police personnel is very less. when we visited Police Station (PS) Itanagar to know the strength of PS. We found that the total sanctioned strength is 182 but only 53 are posted in PS Itanagar.
Demanding Installation of CCTV Surveillance system in all the strategic location the NEHRO,AP unite General secretary Buteng Tayeng said that this will help combating crime. Capital is now unsafe and turning into a active crime hotspots.
Demanding installation of solar street lamp, street light and high mast lighting systems. Almost 95% of street except VIP areas in twin capital remains dark at night hours. These encourage criminals to move freely and hide out after committing crimes. It is no longer safe to walk on streets.
Declare the area from Banderdewa to Hollongi a high Security zone, Tayeng said There has to be a permanent Police Beat in between ltanagar and Nahartagun preferably near Mandir area along with deployment of CRPF personnel. Govt. should establish such Police Beat at every strategic locations.
Administration and law enforcing authorities solely cannot curb these problems without public participation. Every society/CBO/ organization needs to be taken into account of this matter.
